IDS Ultra product details

SEER2 measures seasonal cooling efficiency. These are manufacturer-advertised maximum ratings, not a rating for every size or a prediction of your bills. Actual performance depends on the exact matched equipment, installation and operating conditions. Current model revisions and availability are confirmed in your proposal.

A closer look at IDS Ultra

Built with winter
in mind.

Bosch advertises up to 100% heating capacity down to 5°F at a coefficient of performance (COP) of 2.1, with the ability to initiate heating down to −13°F. These are manufacturer product claims under stated conditions; the precise matched system’s performance data guides our design.

Ultra’s enhanced vapor-injection compressor supports its low-temperature performance. Its dedicated indoor air handler uses a four-stage motor and is selected with the outdoor unit as a matched system.

What sits inside your home

The right air handler
makes it a system.

The indoor coil exchanges heat with the air, and the blower moves that air through your ducts. An air handler does not burn fuel. Optional electric resistance heaters can provide supplemental heat when properly selected and configured.

Bosch BIVA20 Premium indoor air handler

Premium air handler

The BIVA20 family is used for IDS Plus and Premium Connected combinations. Its multi-speed, constant-torque ECM blower is configured for two-stage operation; it is not a continuously variable-speed indoor blower.

Premium air-handler details

Bosch dedicated BIVA IDS Ultra indoor air handler

Dedicated Ultra air handler

IDS Ultra uses its own matched air-handler family, with a four-stage motor. It is different from the regular BIVA20 used with Plus and Premium Connected.

Manufacturer product images: Bosch Home Comfort. BIVA names identify the families shown in Bosch’s product information. Newer engineering documents also list BIVB revisions. These are not a promise of interchangeability: we verify the exact outdoor/indoor model pair, approved ratings, refrigerant requirements and controls before quoting.

The full installation matters.

We check heating and cooling loads, duct sizing and return paths, electrical service, equipment placement, condensate drainage and access for maintenance. The R-454B systems described here must follow their specified installation and refrigerant-safety requirements.

Comfort through the seasons

One system.
Heating and cooling.

01

Winter heating

The heat pump moves heat from outdoor air into the house. It can run for longer periods at lower output rather than repeatedly starting and stopping at full capacity.

02

Summer cooling

Operation reverses to move heat out of the home. Proper airflow and setup help the system cool and remove moisture through the indoor coil.

03

Supplemental heat

When specified, electric heat can assist at cold conditions or during defrost, according to the equipment and control design. Its use affects electricity demand and operating cost.

Defrost is part of normal winter operation.

The outdoor coil may periodically clear frost. Brief steam, water and changes in sound can be normal during defrost. Contact Comfy if the unit stays heavily iced, comfort drops or alerts recur; do not chip ice off the coil.

Comfy’s recommended controls

ElitePRO S1200.
Your choice of black or white.

The 5-inch touchscreen keeps daily adjustments simple. The First Alert app supports scheduling, remote control and alerts. Optional compatible room sensors can help the controls respond to the spaces you care about.

Matter supports integration with Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa. Wi-Fi, internet, apps and a compatible Matter controller or hub may be needed; available functions depend on the platform and setup.

“The S1200 has proven versatile and reliable in our installations, and we have not experienced any issues with it.”

Why we recommend an EIM

The equipment interface module connects at the heating and cooling equipment. RedLINK 3.0 handles wireless communication with the thermostat; two suitable existing wall wires can supply 24-volt power, which may avoid pulling a new cable through finished walls.

Compatible humidity and ventilation accessories are selected and configured separately. Equipment and wired accessories still need local wiring.

Filtration & equipment support

Good airflow.
A filter that fits.

Comfy selects media-filtration options around the required airflow, available space and equipment-support arrangement. AprilAire or Dust Free may suit the installation; site constraints can call for an alternative with comparable filtration performance and suitable airflow.

Proper filtration helps keep the indoor coil and other air-side components cleaner. It does not replace professional maintenance or guarantee an indoor-air-quality outcome.

Your written proposal identifies the air cleaner, controls and accessories included in your project.

Care from the start

First-year maintenance included.

Comfy includes first-year maintenance with your new installation. Your written agreement defines the service scope and scheduling. Keep your equipment manuals and follow the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions between visits and in later years.

Between visits

  • Check the filter and replace it as directed.
  • Keep indoor supply and return grilles clear.
  • Keep the outdoor unit free of leaves, debris and stored items; maintain the specified airflow and service clearances.
  • Report recurring alerts, leaks, unusual noise, heavy persistent icing or rooms that no longer stay comfortable.

Professional system care

  • Inspect coils, airflow, electrical connections and condensate drainage as required.
  • Check heating, cooling and defrost operation.
  • Check thermostat setup and any supplemental electric heat.
  • Follow the selected model’s inspection and maintenance requirements.

This is general care guidance, not a promise that every listed task or replacement part is included in each service visit. Maintenance and the installation warranty have separate scopes.

Understand your coverage

Comfy’s installation warranty.
Bosch’s product protection.

Keep the written installation agreement, product warranty certificate, registration confirmation and maintenance records together.

Comfy

3-year installation warranty

Comfy provides a 3-year installation warranty. Your installation agreement explains its scope and exclusions.

This does not mean every part, labor charge or future repair is covered for three years.

Bosch residential limited warranty

Eligible original purchasers in one- or two-family homes receive 10-year limited coverage for the compressor and factory-installed internal components at the original installation location.

Registration is not required for that standard parts term. Proper installation and maintenance, exclusions and other conditions apply.

Read the Bosch warranty certificate

Separate terms matter

The factory gateway assembly has a 2-year term; field-installed accessories generally have a 1-year term under the certificate.

Registration within 90 days enables only the specified 90-day labor allowance, subject to its schedule and claim rules. It does not provide 10 years of labor coverage.

Thermostats, filters, routine maintenance, refrigerant and installation workmanship do not automatically share the main parts warranty.

This is a residential overview, not the warranty contract. Commercial or multifamily applications, ownership changes and other circumstances can have different terms. Consult the certificate that applies to your exact equipment.

Before you decide

Questions we hear.

Which Bosch option is right for my home?

That starts with your heating and cooling loads, ductwork, electrical capacity, budget and comfort priorities. We compare the exact matched system’s performance at local winter conditions. The highest cooling-efficiency number is not automatically the best fit for a heating-focused project.

Can I keep my existing air handler?

Indoor-equipment reuse is a compatibility question, separate from whether the ducts can stay. The outdoor unit, coil, blower, refrigerant, safety requirements and controls must form an approved match. Ultra requires its dedicated air-handler family for the combinations described here.

Does all-electric mean no supplemental heat?

No. An all-electric design can include electric resistance heat. We determine its need, size and control sequence from the home’s heating demand, low-temperature heat-pump output and defrost requirements.

Will this always cost less to operate?

No universal savings figure applies. Electricity and fuel prices, weather, your current equipment, the building and how the system is used all affect cost. Ratings and rebates are not a substitute for a home-specific comparison.

Will it heat the house during a power outage?

The heat pump, air handler, controls and electric heaters need power. An all-electric system does not by itself provide heating during an outage.

Are the S1200, media filter and other accessories included?

Comfy recommends the S1200 with an equipment interface module and selects filtration around the installation. Your proposal identifies the exact included equipment, controls, accessories and additional electrical or duct work. Ask us to walk through it with you before you approve the project.
